Palacios (pronounced puh-LASH-uhs) is a city in Matagorda County, Texas. The population was 5,153 at the 2000 census. The city of Palacios is located on Tres Palacios, Three Palaces, Bay (from which its name was derived). The bay earned its name from Jose Felix Trespalacious. An interesting alternative to how the Bay earned its name is thatsailors from a Spanish ship that wrecked in Matagorda Bay thought they saw palaces on the shoreline. As they neared the shore, however, the palaces disappeared. The city was developed by a subsidiary of the Texas Rice Development Company in 1902. www.palaciostexas.com
