Mansfield is a city in Ellis, Johnson, and Tarrant Counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 41,564 in 2006. The town's name is an amalgam of the manes of Ralph Man and Julian Feild. These two had the first steam-powered grist mill in the region and the town grew up around the mill. Originally the town was Mansfeild, but somewhere in time became the spelling changed to the more conventional Mansfield. In 2007, CNN/Money Magazine rated Mansfield as one of the "Best Places to Live", ranking 88 out of the top 100 places.
