Iraan is a city in Pecos County, Texas. The population was 1,238 at the 2000 census. The correct pronunciation is "Ira-Ann". The name Iraan was decided through a contest held by town founders Ira and Ann Yates. The person who combined the two names won a town lot as a prize. Iraan is also where the once very popular comic strip Alley Oop was created by V.T. Hamlin.
