Goliad is a city in Goliad County, Texas. The population was 1,975 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Goliad County. Goliad originally named La Bahia was re-named in honor of the patriot priest Miguel Hidalgo, the father of Mexico's independence (Goliad is an anagram of Hidalgo omitting the initial silent 'H').
